History - All Four Cups
In season 1907-8, Hunslet performed the unprecedented feat of winning All Four Cups (the Challenge Cup, the Championship Trophy, their County Challenge Cup and their County Championship.) Their captain was Albert Goldthorpe and the forward pack that did so much to secure All Four Cups was termed the "Terrible Six". The seven forwards who built up that reputation (only six of them could play in any one game of course) were Brookes, Higson, Jules, Randall, Swales, Walsh and Wilson, with Cappleman and Wray as other reserves who were also called upon occasionally. In 1914-5 Huddersfield's "Team of All Talents", led by Harold Wagstaff, emulated Hunslet in taking All Four Cups.
Swinton were the last team to win All Four Cups, which they did in 1927-8. Here they are with their trophies at Station Road. |
