World Cup - Golden
Lions
There has been a great response to our request for your choice of the Golden
Lions - your fantasy team of great players who have graced the World Cup for
Great Britain, England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Full details of the
votes cast below.
On Saturday January 13th 1954 Dave Valentine's unfancied Great Britain
defeated France in the first World Cup Final at the Parc de Princes stadium in
Paris. To celebrate the Golden Jubilee you have chosen the following team to
represent Great Britain and the Home Countries. The team is captained by
Alan
Prescott.
SUMMARY OF VOTING
- Billy Boston polled most votes for any player
in the poll.
- The tightest votes were for the Fullback and Second Row positions.
- Roger Millward was the only Hall of Fame
member short listed who did not make the team. However, he was beaten by
another Hall of Famer - Alex Murphy.
- Both Roger Millward and
Dave Valentine received more CAPTAIN votes than player votes!
