Leigh signed Jim from Dewsbury in 1948 for a then record fee of £2,650 . He was an outstanding fullback and kicker who holds the record for most kicks in a career at 1,043 he also scored 36 tries in 10 years at the club for a total of 2194 only passed by John woods. He represents Great Britain many times as well.

His kicking ability helped the unlikely Great Britain 1954 team to World Cup glory.
