Virtual Rugby League
Hall of Fame Website Breaks 100,000 Hits in October
Southampton, 3 November 2006:
The UK’s only
website designed to celebrate the heroes of Rugby League
www.rlhalloffame.org.uk - broke the 100,000 hits barrier in October. Visits
to the site have increased month on month since the site's launch in January
2004.
Steve Newcombe, who has created the Virtual Hall of Fame site, is pleased with
the response from the Rugby League public.
“With very little publicity, the Virtual Hall of Fame has attracted more and
more visits in the short time it has been online. From just over 10,000 hits in
the first month the site passed 50,000 monthly hits in October 2004 and to make
six figures is a great milestone for the site.”
“More importantly people from around the world are using the site as a knowledge
base for Rugby League related queries. It is quite humbling that people are
asking you to help find out about a member of their family who has played our
game in the past”
The site has chalked up a couple of notable successes in its short life.
Huddersfield’s Albert Rosenfeld was accepted into the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame
in 2005 following a nomination from the Hall of Fame website. The site was also
privileged to act as a Book of Condolence when the great Trevor Foster passed
away.
Newcombe is determined to build a mass of content about the great players and
events of the Greatest Game. "It is tough to grow the site as I would like. I
have a job and a family and so I have to edit the site as and when I can. I have
plans for an online Museum but this is taking longer to plan than I had hoped. I
have also recently launched a Forum to compliment the site. So anyone with
anything they think would be of interest about past players, whether Hall of
Fame members or not, please use the Forum so we can tell the world!"
