World Cup - Golden Lions - Alan Prescott

Alan Prescott as born on the 17th June 1927 in Widnes. Saints signed him from Halifax on the 11th. January 1949 and he made his first team debut four days later against Belle Vue Rangers. His final appearance for the Club was against Halifax on the 19th. March 1960. He retired from playing but followed Jim Sullivan as the Saints’ coach.

Captain and Lance Todd winner at Wembley in 1956, Alan captained Lancashire and Great Britain in the same season. He will always be remembered for leading his side to victory over Australia at Brisbane in 1958, having broken his arm after just four minutes. Alan played 404 games for the club, 14 times for Lancashire, 12 for England and made 31 Great Britain appearances.

Alan coached the Saints to Lancashire Cup success and a Wembley win over Wigan in 1961. Alan Prescott was one of the all-time greats of Rugby League.

Alan Prescott was a stalwart for the club playing over 400 matches as a prop. In 404 matches for the Saints Alan scored 31 tries, kicked no goals for a total points aggregate of 93 points.
