Test Matches - Australia - New Zealand - Australia and New Zealand 1910 Details from The Vault and Roland Davis "Great Britain Rugby League Tours"
The first Lions tourists covered almost 35,000 miles in five months, and each player was awarded £30 from a tour profit of £1,219. The team colours were red and white hooped jerseys. The first touring captain, Salford's Jimmy Lomas, was also the tour's leading scorer with 53 goals and 10 tries for 136 points. Wigan's Bert Jenkins led the try scorers with 14. The legendary Billy Batten scored five tries and a goal on his only tour. Having won the first two tests against Australia, the Third Test was replaced by a match against a combined Australia - New Zealand side. This game was drawn 13-13 and so a further game was played resulting in a victory from Australasia. Hunslet's Billy Jukes scored the first hat-trick in an Anglo-Australian Test and is still the only forward to achieve this. In the Second Test Jimmy Leytham became the only man ever to score four tries in a Test against Australia.
