Test Matches - Australia - New Zealand - Australia and New Zealand 1936

Details from The Vault and Roland Davis "Great Britain Rugby League Tours"

Leeds' Cumbrian full back Jim Brough was chosen as captain after Jim Sullivan withdraw because of his wife's illness.

The tourists lost only three games, including the First test at Sydney by 8-24. Following that defeat though the Lions won every game in Australia including two Tests to take the series, and all eight in New Zealand, including Two tests.

The Lions had a different captain in each Australian Test - Arthur Atkinson, Jim Brough and Gus Risman. Australian prop Ray Stehr was sent off in both the First and Third tests.

Martin Hodgson, on his second tour, made most appearances (18) and was the leading scorer with 65 goals and 3 tries. Alan Edwards (Salford), the baby of the party, led the try scorers with 21.

In the Third Test against Australia, and in both Kiwi Tests, the Lions fielded five Salford backs in Risman, Hudson, Edwards, Jenkins and Watkins.
