Test Matches - Australia - New Zealand - Australia and New Zealand 1970
Details from The Vault and Roland Davis "Great Britain Rugby League Tours"
Frank Myler captained the most successful of all Lions tours, with the side losing just one game in Australia (the First Test), drawing with New South Wales, and winning every other game in the tour including a whitewash of the Kiwis. An outstanding performance by Roger Millward in the second Test saw him equal the record of 20 points, and in the third Test scored five tries to one in a victory far more convincing than the four point margin indicated. The side id remembered for the heroics of Myler, Millward, Malcolm Reilly and others, but all 26 players appeared in Tests during the tour, and both Sydney and Auckland crowds gave the side a tremendous ovation at the end of the final Tests. The Tests were the first played under the new limited tackle (four tackle) rule. Top scorer was Terry Price with 177 points (51 goals and 5 tries). Syd Hynes was top try scorer with 19. Hynes' Leeds colleague John Atkinson made the most appearances (18).
